The BRUX CHECKER® foil registers occlusal interferences like bruxism through abrasion on the foil surface. The foil is moulded over a hard plaster model and worn for at least one night by the patient. The evaluation of this parafunctional grinding pattern allows the clinician to draw conclusions on possible causes of the disorder and to choose the appropriate treatment.

Patient information
Your dentist has given you one or more BRUX CHECKER® foils, which
were shaped on a model of your teeth. The foil has a biocompatible colour
coating on one side, which will be abraded at the contact points between
your upper and lower teeth while you are wearing it. The resulting pattern
enables your dentist to identify any tooth and jaw misalignments.
In order to obtain a meaningful result, please observe the following:
• Make sure not to use any mouthwash containing alcohol, as this might
dissolve the lacquer coat of the splint and lead to a discoloration of the
tongue.
• The foil will be worn during sleep in the night.
• Carefully press the foil on your upper and lower jaw, first in the area of
the front teeth and then in the area of the molars.
• Please proceed in reverse order in the morning: Remove the foil using
your finger nails first in the area of the molars and then in the area of
the front teeth.
• Rinse the foil under lukewarm water and let it dry. Then put the foil again
over the plaster model, in order to avoid deformation.
• Each foil is for use during one night only.
• Please avoid alcohol and medication like sleeping pills, as this may lead
to a non-typical grinding pattern.
• Once you returned the model and the foil to your dentist, he will consult
you on the next measures to take.
